Oddometer 1,968. Location: Sonoma CA. The clacking sound can be the cam chain slapping around, from a failed cam chain tensioner. It's not unheard of. For you to check, you would need to get in under the valve cover or remove the tensioner, which is not very easy on the GS beacuse of the plumbing nearby.

3224. Location: Colorado. Listen closely when you turn the key to the start position and see if you hear the fuel pump pressurize. If you don't, run a wire directly from the battery to the fuel pump and see if it starts. If it does. replace the fuel pressure sensor. #3. GH41 , May 1, 2013. #4.
InMarch 2003, BMW NA released two service bulletins (17 001 03-012 and 31 001 03-013) for the GS/Dakar/CS models about voiding your warranty by installing radiator guards and fork boots/gaiters. Be careful not to overfill the oil on your GS/Dakar. This can cause overheating problems, and may not be detected by the coolant temperature

TheF650 is very capable in the right hands off road but the KLR is clearly easier to handle there. The Dakar or Sertao suspension is closer to that of the KLR. I only have a few short rides on a KLR and both times the bike felt solid and capable, if a little less refined than the F650GS I have ridden for 80,000 miles.

Location NW PA. All F650GSs are FI. The older F650 Funduro & ST have carbs. You might look at Chain Gang is the place for all things F650. Other than the usual "the sky is falling, it is the end of life as we know it" stuff I am not aware of any specific problem with E10 ethenol fuel. If the new E15 causes problems remains

Althoughthe new BMW G 650 X is around the corner and appears (on paper) to be an improvement (lighter by about 55Lbs (~25 kilos)), I just bought a loaded '03 Dakar (for a great price) and really enjoy it. I can comfortably cruise the autobahn at 120-140kph (74-87 mph) all day long without the excessive buzz a lot of singles possess.
